HUMAN BEINGS are social animals adapted for group living. Our research examines how collective concerns—ranging from our group identities to our moral values and political ideologies—can shape even the most basic elements of perception and evaluation. We believe these social dynamics are fundamental to understanding the human mind and brain.
OUR LAB takes a social neuroscience approach to these issues, moving from the function of brain regions to large-scale collective action. It is our hope that this approach will help address a range of social issues, including implicit bias, dehumanization, cooperation, justice, partisanship, and intergroup conflict.
